Rob Jeffreys is a nationally recognized expert in criminal justice, renowned for leading transformative reforms that enhance prison safety and improve reentry outcomes. He is a staunch advocate for using research and data to inform decision-making, increase efficiency, and drive measurable improvements in correctional systems.
Mr. Jeffreys currently serves as the Director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) and a board member of the International Corrections and Prisons Association.
Since assuming leadership of NDCS in 2023, Mr. Jeffreys has spearheaded innovative reentry initiatives that bring together a wide network of public and private stakeholders. These efforts aim to improve the success rates of individuals reintegrating into society following incarceration.
Previously, as Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), Mr. Jeffreys led major reforms, including the creation of a dedicated Reentry Division. His tenure was marked by a 40% reduction in the restrictive housing population and the implementation of streamlined population reduction strategies, resulting in Illinois reaching its lowest prison population since 1991.
Before his roles in Illinois and Nebraska, Mr. Jeffreys held several executive positions within the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), including Chief of Staff, Regional Director, Bureau Chief of Classification, and Warden.
In addition to his leadership roles, Mr. Jeffreys has served as a consultant and trainer for the U.S. Department of Justice, the Crime and Justice Institute, and The Moss Group. In these capacities, he has supported agencies nationwide in achieving policy goals and strengthening their organizational missions through targeted program development and training.
Mr. Jeffreys holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in criminal justice, with a concentration in Correctional Administration, from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
